So where have I been?

Every-stinkin'-where.......that's where :)

Yep......college classrooms, the college library, my office (or on the sofa with my laptop), elementary & middle school classrooms......you know I am just all kinds of crazy I tell ya! So I am pressing on with this Master's program (4 classes this semester) & uber-busy writing my thesis on Japanese American internment during WWII (as it applies to freedom & democracy.....yada, yada, yada) plus I having been subbing in our local school district. Yeah.....i have all kinds of free time, ya know (said with by best Minnesota accent)?

So obviously I've been busy....with nothing exciting to write about but I do have to throw this little tidbit out for my sister Femmie. I know she'll get a total kick out of it....................

Today I taught 8th grade at our charter school. Part of my day included an hour and a half lesson in Pre-Algebra. Yes, Femmie....................I said algebra. Okay....let me tell you all that right about now my sister has not only shot diet coke out her nose all over the comouter screen, she probably has also wet her pants laughing so hard........................and with good cause, I tell you. Let me explain.......while we are both relatively smart (not to brag) & are really good students (with slight over-achiever issues) we both absolutley suck at algebra! Seriously....this notion is absolutely hysterical! And the kids actually thought I 'had it together". One girl even said "I wish Mr. G could explain it like that!" And another said as I left "Man I wish you were our regular teacher."

See, Femmie....there is hope for us yet...........................:)

Thankfully I was only drinking water when I read this. Algebra....no way! I love you dear daughter, but please...Algebra? Yes, you and Femmie are uber smart and way ahead of the game in so many areas, but Algebra? Lord, I'll have nightmares about this one. I can picture you in front of the class...oh no, that's not you. Oh wait, it is you with your best fake ever! If you can convince 8th graders that you know Algebra then you have this whole teaching thing in the bag! Love you!

Yes, you really need to blog more regularly - I miss your bloggging. Good to hear from you and I can see why you haven't been blogging - you've been VERY busy.

I'm contemplating going back to Grad School to finish my degree, but I've been quite indecisive.

I laughed soooo hard. What a nightmare that would have been for me. "ok kids...step one is....wait, does anyone know what step one is?" ROFL I'm sooo uber impressed that you actually made it through an hour and a half...I could have spent that long just trying to write the problem down....hehe. I hate math!!!! I do love english though...except when they try to use a great language to explain a math problem in written format....grrr!! I miss you...what else is new up there? I have to call you soon....we gotta catch up! Lub ya forty nerdy! Oh...and thanks for my much needed daily giggle :-) And the kids probably loved you because you explained it in a way that only a person who doesn't understand it can explain it...make sense? LOL

This reminds me of my mom. She was terrified of math when I was in jr high/high school...but somehow, when I was taking geometry, she understood it and we sort of learned together! :)
