The dreaded "Cards"........

Our kiddos school has what the kids call "the Cards".....essentially it is how the teacher's deal with poor behavior in the classroom...this includes talking, not pay attention...pretty much everything. It goes like this...

If your card is on GREEN-you are havin a rockin good day (every child starts each day out on green)

If you have to pull to YELLOW-dude you have been warned (actually you probably have been warned twice & the teacher is trying to drive her point home)

If you pull to ORANGE-kiddo is having some issues today & gets set to the principal to get the fear of God put in them

If you pull to RED-dude your life as you know it is over, meaning you can't return to the classroom until the principal has a conference with you, the teacher & your parents.....your life seriously sucks...........

So here we are & it's day 5 of little R. going to school. As soon as he climbs in the van each day he tells me "ohhhhh mommmyyyyyy......so & so pulled to yellow today.....that is not good" and Monday he even shared that a particular boy in his class pulled to orange.....

Well, yesterday I go to pick him up & I am waiting on the sidewalk. Then I spy my very sad looking 5 year old coming down the line...........and I knew.

Me: what's up dude?

R: It was an accident.....*sniff* I'm *sniff* soooooooooo sorry (this was follwed my a floodgate of tears)

Me:What happened? (like I didn't already know)

R: (this part I hard trouble deciphering between the gigantic sobs) I pulled to yellow........

Honestly all I could think was "SHIT!". It's a incredible sunny day (which are soon to disappear in Alaska) & now I gotta be "bad cop". Crap.....why didn't he do this on Friday when his dad was home. I don't wanna deal with this (said in my whiniest voice ever)!

So little man got an early bed time & the task of telling his dad over the phone last night what had happened. Oh how he dreaded telling K. You would have thought I had sentenced him to soliatry confinement. And when I got to the class this morning his teacher pulled me aside to tell me she was shocked that he took it so very hard yesterday. She said he was truly devestated & cried (silently) for over an hour he 'pulled his card'. So I guess we'll see how he fares today..............

That cute little face had to pull a yellow card? No way...I don't believe it for a minute. He's never been ornery, or wild, or had a little too much energy, or even been a little too much all boy...LOL... Poor thing. I remember the days of getting in trouble (not always at school) and feeling that dread of having to tell dad. Blech! So, did he do better today?

L.B. says Ungabiba (like his mario ds game.) hehehe...he says R. is way too innocent to ever have had to pull a yellow card. That face is one of pure innocence. (Yeah...right) ;-)

How's D. doing in school so far? Is she loving it this year?

By the way...what did he do to have to pull that yellow?

Love you guys!!!

P.S.-tell R. 'chin up'....mommy isn't always a hairy green monster on nice sunny days :-P

I was in the car when we picked up R...I thought his chin was going to hit the pavement, his poor little head was hanging so low. Did he deserve, you bet! As much as he loves his Mom and we all know she cherishes the little guy, rules are NOT made to be broken. You break the rules, you face the consequences. But you should here him say, "Grandma, I got a consequence." It's so darned cute and he looks so downright pitifull when he says it. Sorry SM, I'm not making light of the situation.. I know he needs to learn. But you have to admit it's so darn cute!

Well, at least it's a system that they respect!? I need to get some yellow cards around here-- I'd be giving them out left and right!
